INTRODUCING PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a “public health emergency of international concern” this past Monday due to increasing concerns of the Zika Virus, a mosquito-borne virus that is linked to alarming consequences such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome and microcephaly birth defects. Specifically, Zika is transmitted by the aedes aegypti mosquito, which also carries dengue, chikungunya and the West Nile virus.

The Zika Virus is cause for high alert, spreading to more than 20 countries since the initial outbreak in May 2015, including the United States. WHO reports that the virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas, with as many as 3-million to 4-million infections possible over 12 months.

WHO does not often declare emergencies. In fact, only three times since the International Health Regulations were enacted in 2007 have there been international public health emergencies; the first was when the H1N1 swine flu pandemic erupted in 2009, the second was when Polio resurfaced in May 2014, and the third was the Ebola outbreak in August 2014. The Zika Virus will be the fourth ever “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC), and the first the time WHO has issued such a warning over a mosquito-borne disease.

Eliminating the Vector:

Standing water and open sewage systems are fertile grounds for female aedes aegypti mosquitos that carry the Zika virus. In areas of high alert, such as Brazil, health ministries have announced plans to send more than 220,000 troops to treat potential sites of larvae nests throughout the country. Doctors are advising citizens, especially pregnant women who are most at-risk for severe complications, to wear mosquito repellent and repellent-treated clothing during daytime hours or times of possible contact with the aedes aegypti mosquito.

Perimeter Eto Insect Guard provides the user maximum bite protection from the Aedes Aegypti through a new insecticide called Etofenprox. Etofenprox is layered onto the fabric of Perimeter Eto Insect Guard garments, providing safety from bites at a consistent protection rate of 90% or higher and the reliability lasts for up to 75 washes. Etofenprox is a synthetic “pyrethroid-like” ether insecticide. The structure of etofenprox makes it more stable and less toxic than other pyrethroid-insecticides such as permethrin. Etofenprox works by attacking the neuronal axon of the vector, the aedes aegypti mosquito and numerous other disease-carrying pests.
